CALM AND BALANCE SKILL DEVELOPMENT GROUP

What This Is All About

Calm & Balance is a virtual psychoeducational workshop series designed to provide structured skill development for stress reduction and emotional wellness. Facilitated by Cathy L. House, LMFT, the program integrates evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with a holistic body-mind-spirit framework.

Stand-Alone Flexibility

Cathy’s workshop series is built as a modular "toolkit." Each group session is a standalone experience, allowing you to drop in for the specific skills you need. Selected sessions will have limited Q&A at the end of the sessions.


  • The Calm & Balance Map – Learn how stress affects body, mind, and behavior, and identify your personal early warning signs. 
  • Understanding Stress – Explore helpful vs harmful stress and how chronic stress impacts health. 
  • Stress & the Nervous System – Learn how the body reacts to stress and how to activate recovery mode. 
  • Stress & Thoughts – Understand the CBT model and how thoughts influence stress responses. 
  • Stress & Emotions – Identify emotional signals and build regulation skills.
  • Breath for Regulation – Learn simple breathing tools to calm the nervous system quickly. 
  • Mindfulness & Present Awareness – Reduce rumination and worry using practical mindfulness skills. 
  • Body-Based Stress Relief – Gentle physical techniques for releasing tension.
  • Guided Imagery for Calm – Use visualization to promote emotional safety and relaxation.
  • Meditation & Prayer – Simple contemplative practices for focus, meaning, and peace.
  • Working with Fear – Learn how to respond to fear without spiraling.
  • Joy & Humor as Medicine – Build resilience through positive emotion and connection.

  • Identify Stress Signals: Learn to map how stress affects your body and behavior, identifying your personal "early warning signs".
  • Regulate the Nervous System: Understand how to move your body from "stress mode" into "recovery mode" using breath and body-based tools.
  • Manage Thoughts and Emotions: Build emotional resilience through mindfulness and CBT techniques to manage fear, uncertainty, and rumination.

  • Brief Psychoeducation: A short, informative segment to help you understand the "why" behind stress and healing
  • Guided Skill Practice: A hands-on, facilitated practice during the session to ensure you feel confident using the tool.
  • Take-Home Strategies: Practical take-home tools provided at the end of every workshop.
